Methods to combat application piracy

Probably some of you remember the article in which we were talking about the phenomenon of hacking applications for iPhone / iPod Touch and the amounts to which the losses of the Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), but also of the developers. Then we were talking at length about what hacking means for the so-called money factory Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), but also for developers who waste hours of their lives trying to create the best possible applications for users iPhone / iPod Touch.

Now I will talk about 2 methods by which these developers managed to protect their investment even though their applications were cracked without much effort and distributed to the whole world through sites like AppTrackR, e.g. The first method is the introduction of advertising banners only in cracked applications, this is done by entering a code in the application that displays the respective banners only in cracked applications, the legally purchased ones remaining banner free. This method was successfully used by Tapulous which managed to collect no less than 1 million $ per month from the respective banners and another half from the sales made inside the game. I have to admit that it is a matter of colossal sums obtained by taking advantage of the phenomenon of piracy.

The second method is in-app purchases, practically some developers let in AppStore of a free version of the application or of a considerably cheaper version but which contains much fewer elements than if it had cost significantly more, elements that can be bought directly from the application by those who wish to do so. In-app purchases are becoming an increasingly used method by developers because it is one of the safest ways to make money from applications, much more profitable than adding banners, for example, banners that are not so safe , as detailed in the article this.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), fed up with losses, developers are fed up with losses and I'm sure that these 2 methods, especially the last one, will be applied on a much wider scale in the times to come. In the end, whether we like it or not, we will end up spending money on applications.
