In case you didn't know, iOS 4.0 GM allows the WiFi connection to remain open even if your phone freezes, with the idea of allowing applications to remain connected to the Internet and finish the tasks started before the phone is frozen or simply to receive Push Notifications at regular time intervals. Although Steve Jobs did not mention at the keynote presentation of iOS 4.0 that this function will also be available on the iPod Touch, there are details on the Apple website that confirm this, so iPod Touch owners will be able to benefit from this feature .
You can also have this functionality in iPhone OS 3.x, but only by installing an application from Cydia called Insomnia that will keep the WiFi on in the background when you lock the phone. My opinion is that this function is extremely welcome because it often happens that I download/upload something through an application and without realizing it the phone freezes and the download/upload process is interrupted and the whole operation has to be started from the beginning .
