geohot has just released the limera1n jailbreak solution that jailbreaks iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G on iOS 4.1, but also on future versions of iOS. geohot claims that this jailbreak solution cannot be blocked by Apple, so it uses a bootrom exploit, but for now chronicdevteam and comex do not recommend not to use it because it has not been properly tested by geohot. For now limera1n is only available for Windows but cannot be downloaded from limera1n.com, but as soon as you can download it you will be able to get it from here.

UPDATED: It seems that geohot removed the download link for limera1n and inserted the text "Download link pending discussion". It seems that the chronic dev team and comex accuse geohot of stealing an exploit for the jailbreak solution. Moreover, it seems that what geohot will reveal now will lead to the impossibility of decoding iPad 2 and iPhone 5. I will keep you informed of the unfolding of events.

limera1n does hacktivation so you don't need an activation card to jailbreak. During the process iTunes will open several times, close it each time.

Here are the steps you need to follow to jailbreak using limera1n:
Step 1
Download limera1n de here, connect the phone to the PC, close iTunes and press the "make it ra1n" button.
Step 2
The terminal will enter Recovery Mode and limera1n will ask you to simultaneously press the home + power buttons, do this.
Step 3
After the image disappears from the screen, wait 1 second, then release the power button and the terminal will enter DFU Mode.
After the terminal enters DFU Mode, the jailbreak will be implemented and you will see the limera1n logo on the screen. After the jailbreak is implemented, the phone will shut down. Press the power button to turn it on and enjoy your new jailbroken terminal.
