SkyFire: Flash on iPhone? Not as you would have expected!

We all know that the SkyFire browser was released on Wednesday in the AppStore and only 5 hours after publication the company a asked for those from Apple to remove the application from the AppStore because the processing capacity of the SkyFire servers has been exceeded. A lot of people were waiting for the SkyFire browser because it allows us to view video clips in flash format, and that's all, on our terminals, but many were disappointed by the fact that the company asked €2.39 for the application, justifying the price imposed on the fact that several tens of millions of dollars were spent in developing the technology and infrastructure for the application, so the money had to be recovered from somewhere. However, the great regret of iDevices users lies in the fact that the browser does not play the flash content of the pages because I am sure that many would have liked to be able to see absolutely everything possible from the page instead of the usual empty spaces.

On the first day of operation, the SkyFire browser had problems loading the movies in flash format because the servers doing the conversion were overloaded and could not cope with the huge number of requests. Now, 2 days later, things have calmed down and the browser is starting to become somewhat more usable even for viewing video clips. I did a small test this morning and uploaded 2 different video clips on 3G and Wi-Fi and I was amazed by the fact that on 3G the video clip loaded much faster, although the quality was identical to that of the clip uploaded on Wi- Be. I repeated the test on 3G on another site, the video clip loaded quite quickly (about 30 seconds) and ran without stopping until I turned it off, so regardless of whether you are on a 3G or Wi-Fi connection the browser runs the clips fluently and non-stop. The biggest problem is the bandwidth consumed, for 2 uploaded video clips I consumed approximately 15MB (on 3G), both of which were approximately 3 minutes each, but none of them ran until the end.

Is SkyFire worth €2.39? I would say no, because the loading time of a video clip is quite long and the traffic consumed is not at all negligible, so for an average use I could not recommend the application. If you still have a subscription with unlimited internet and you often watch videos on the internet, then for you the investment is worth it and you probably won't regret that you did it.

For now, the application is not available in the AppStore, but as soon as it is reintroduced, I will let you know.
