Apple's co-founder was misquoted when talking about Android

Today I wrote one article in which we said that the co-founder of Apple would have declared for a Dutch newspaper that Android OS will surpass iOS in the near future. It seems that the Dutch newspaper misquoted Steve Wozniac, he claimed that during the time he spoke with the Dutch journalist he would not have said such a thing, rather he said that among his applications the best are for iOS and Android OS it is currently not better than iOS. Actually "Woz" stands up that Android is "crappy" and that the only way it could surpass iOS is the multitude of platforms on which it is currently adopted.

It wouldn't be the first time a newspaper misquotes someone, but at such a level I think such a "mistake" should have been avoided.

Woz says he gave it The Telegraph reporter a lengthy demonstration of voice commands on iOS and Android, pointed out that Android offered the ability to say "Navigate to Joe's Diner," and suggested that Apple would catch up through its purchases of Siri and Poly9. According to Steve, that's about it — he says he'd "never" say that Android was better than iOS, and that "Almost every app I have is better on the iPhone." Woz did say he lightly prognosticated that Android would become more popular "based on what I've read," but that he expects Android "to be a lot like Windows... I'm not trying to put Android down, but I'm not suggesting it's better than iOS by any stretch of the imagination. But it can get greater marketshare and still be crappy." He's not shy, that Woz — listen to him say it all for yourself after the break.

  1. I kind of expected that. I mean, anyway, it was read between the lines that Android is similar to Windows and Apple has always considered Windows a 3rd grade product.

  2. and when I think that some people like Tigris Regalis put some energy into defending Apple's cause in vain when in fact they were wrong, they quoted the wrong one...

  3. @glm, you are getting ridiculous with your attacks on tigris regalis. I don't agree with him either, but stop being childish.
Instead of debating the article, you found another way to attack the tigris regalis ala…

  4. Regarding the quote with Woz I showed that it is understandable if a geek like Woz is excited about the "open" aspects of a software, like a car mechanic is excited about easy access to the engine. And the fact that Android is used by several manufacturers, who each install it on several types of devices, does not automatically lead to an increase in Android's market share, the only certainty being the fragmentation of the Android ecosystem.
