The Dev Team admits that the 06.15.00 baseband affects the ability to use GPS

I discussed yesterday si The day before yesterday about the problems that ultrasn0w causes to users and finally explicitly official that activation is the problem and not ultrasn0w. Well, in addition to the battery autonomy problem, some users also reported problems with the GPS functionality, problems that reached the ears of the Dev Team who announced on their blog that they will investigate the problem and that at the moment everyone has to take into account the fact that the baseband update could prevent them from using GPS.

The Dev Team does not know what the problem is, but if it is about the baseband, then probably installing this baseband on the iPhone could affect the AGPS function that uses the telephone network to triangulate the position on the map. I don't know how the people from the Dev Team tested this decoding solution, but it seems to be the worst ever released by them and it doesn't even seem to be a decoding solution in itself, but more of a workaround.

Anyway, if you haven't done the baseband update yet, I would recommend you not to do it until they solve the problem.

Update #5: Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00. Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you'll lose GPS at 06.15.00. As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section. (Update: early indications are that while 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it will require some further hacks. But please still be conservative and assume you will lose GPS at 06.15, in case the hacks don't work).
