200 million FaceTime users by 2012?

Considering the recent rumors regarding the number of products sold by Apple during the winter holidays this year, analysts from All Things Digital estimates that by the end of next year there will be approximately 200 million devices compatible with FaceTime on the market. American analysts estimate that this year Apple will sell over 87 million devices compatible with FaceTime, more precisely: 50 million iPhone terminals, 15 million iPod Touches, 10 million iPad tablets and 10 million Macs. Adding these figures with those of last year and those of next year, it is estimated that there will be over 200 million devices compatible with FaceTime on the market.

While Android and competitive devices either have or are working towards incorporating a similar feature, we believe this particular feature benefits from Apple's vertically integrated model," Reitzes said. "Experiences across disparate hardware platforms tend to vary–with Apple's one of the most reliable in our trials. Also, this feature allows Apple to mine the millions of iTunes users who have Apple ID's–and provide an attractive feature across devices that can be put into use immediately. We believe the 'FaceTime networking effect' could enhance a halo effect on Macs and iPads as the feature becomes available.

To be honest, the number is high, exaggeratedly high considering that at the moment there are not 200 million iDevices on the market, but considering the growth recorded by Apple last year, it is possible that we will have some surprises. Of course, the prices for terminals are high, very high, and if Apple manages to find a way to reduce prices, it will be able to increase sales a lot.
