POWERVR SGX543 – a new graphics chip discovered in iOS 4.3, brings almost double performance

The graphic chip is a very important component for any device, be it mobile or not, and Apple took care to implement in its iDevices a rather powerful one produced by the company Imagination Technologies and known as POWERVR SGX535. With the help of this graphic chip, games like Infiniti Blade run without any problem on iDevices and the information recently discovered in iOS 4.3 beta 1 indicates that Apple has prepared some important surprises for us.

PWERVR SGX543 is one of the newest graphics cards produced by Imagination Technologies and according to INPUTS from iOS 4.3 beta 1 it is possible to see it implemented in future iDevices. This new graphic chip has almost double the performance compared to the one existing in the A4 chip, that is, when it runs at 200 Mhz, it has a computing capacity of 35 million polygons per second and a filter rate of 1 billion pixels per second, this in comparison with a filterrate of 500 million pixels per second and 28 million polygons per second as much as the POWERVR SGX535 in current iDevices can.

In addition to processing power, the new graphic chip is compatible with the OpenCL standard developed by Apple, but also with dual-core processors, so it brings better performance than the current hardware. It is hard to say if we will see this new graphic chip in the future iDevices, but I hope that at least the iPhone 5 will have it.
