The evolution of the iMac from 1998 until today

The iMac was launched by Apple in 1998 as a "budget" product for Apple, that is, a product with an average price that can be purchased by almost any American. At that time, a good PC in the US reached up to $1500, on average, and Apple did not go below this limit when it set the price for the iMac. Since then and until now, a lot has changed regarding this product and in pictures below you will see how the iMac has evolved during its almost 13 years of existence.

iMac G3 – August 1998

This first model was launched after the return of Steve Jobs to the management of Apple and was a first attempt to produce a regular computer that could be used by the common man. The beginning was good for Apple considering that the line is still successful today.

iMac G4 – January 2002

This was a really interesting product at the time, notice the huge difference between the previous version and the current design. Apple had the courage to launch on the market a product with a totally unusual design that amazed many at the time.

iMac G5 – August 2004

This is the predecessor to the current iMac model. Apple preferred to opt for a thin screen and a thick base, all components of the device being inserted into the screen housing. This model does not look as good as the current model, to be honest it looks like something cheap, something that Apple would not produce today.

iMac G5(Intel) – January 2006

This is the current model of iMac and notice how much Apple has changed compared to the previous design. We have a bezel on the edges of the screen and a much smaller surface at the bottom, practically it looks very good as a design and of course the performances are not to be neglected either.

That's it for the Apple iMac, maybe we'll see a new model this year.
