Safe Deposit Box – a new way to secure files on Mac

A new one was registered to the Apple company invention patent the other day, this time for a new method of securing files on Mac OS X. The new patent details a method of securing files using a Safe Deposit Box in which system files could be transferred, secured, hidden and probably uploaded to Apple's servers using a new file sharing service. This new function could be implemented either in Mac OS X Lion which would be available this year, but maybe even in iOS through a special application. To see your files saved on the computer but also online, you must log in with your user/password either from the computer or the one for the online service to which the connection will be made.

One of the key attributes or selling points of Apple's Safe Deposit Box Application or OS X feature is that your digital valuables could be stored "off site" or beyond the home computer to safeguard your digital valuables which could be something like a Will or Living Will , agreements, life insurance policies, home insurance policies, a simple home inventory list or video or perhaps something that's really valuable to most every iTunes fan: a copy of your iTunes Library.

This new feature could be linked either to MobileMe or to a new independent service that will only be used to archive important user files. The new application is interesting, but it remains to be seen if Apple will offer it for free or as a paid service. If it decides to charge money for its use, then quite a few Mac or iOS users will be tempted to pay a monthly fee to save certain files on Apple's servers.
