The new adapter for HDMI video mirroring also works with iPad/iPhone 4

video mirroring is a new feature implemented by Apple in iOS 4.3 that allows HDMI video streaming in 1080p format using a special adapter. The function was presented last night as a feature of iOS 4.3 and iPad 2, but it will also be compatible with iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. During the conference Steve Jobs neglected to mention the fact that the audio-video adapter will also work with these devices and of course he forgot to mention the fact that through them we will only be able to stream in 720p format. The current devices are not capable of playing video in 1080p format and this is probably due to the processor/ram which unfortunately are not powerful enough like the iPad 2.

In conclusion, as soon as iOS 4.3 will be available, we will have the iPad 2 plus the new connector that will cost $39 and will be compatible with these devices. I don't know if video mirroring will also work on iPhone 3GS, but theoretically you should be able to stream in 480p format to a monitor if iOS 4.3 for iPhone 3GS will have built-in video mirroring.
