Jailbreak and unlock iOS 4.3 - everything you need to know

As you already know, iOS 4.3 was released officially last evening and many of you expected the Dev Team to already release jailbreak and unlock solutions for this new version of iOS. I've been warning you since last month that this won't happen so quickly, and I was right, but I couldn't predict the things announced by MuscleNerd last night, even though many of you already guessed them. I did one last night article in which I presented everything that MuscleNerd said, important for people who are waiting for jailbreak and unlock solutions, but today I will repeat everything for each individual device.

There is no jailbreak solution for iOS 4.3, for previous firmware versions you can find tutorials here. Below I will only talk about the possibility of unlocking aka decoding.

Before starting, I tell you that you can find out the baseband version of your terminal by going to Settings>General>About>Modem firmware.

  • iPhone 4 - if you have baseband 02.10.x, 03.10.x or 04.10.x then you cannot unlock your terminal. The release of this jailbreak solution is a priority, but for now it is not known when it will be available.
  • iPhone 3GS - if you have bseband 05.14.x, 05.15.x or 05.16.00 then you cannot unlock your terminal. For baseband 05.14.x and 05.15.x there is a solution to unlock by installing an iPad baseband, but you will lose the possibility to use the GPS, so I do NOT recommend this solution.
  • iPhone 3G – iOS 4.3 does not exist for iPhone 3G, but if you have baseband 05.14.x or 05.15.x then the situation described for iPhone 3GS applies.

The past few days, several jailbreak solutions for iOS 4.3 have appeared on the internet, I recommend NOT TO FOLLOW THEM because mobilesubstrate does not work on iOS 4.3 and probably a good part of the applications in Cydia will be impossible to use. It is not known when we will have a tethered/untethered jailbreak solution on iOS 4.3, but until we have it, I recommend you to stay on iOS 4.2.1.

A baseband downgrade solution for those who have iPad baseband on iPhone 3G/3Gs will be available only after the release of the unlock solution for iPhone 4, so you will have to wait at least another month/two or maybe more.
