Mac AppStore applications cost 7 times more than iPhone applications

The Mac AppStore has already existed for 2 months and so far a little over 2.000 applications have been accepted in it, 4 times less than there were for the iPad last year. Interest in the development of applications intended for the Mac AppStore seems to be quite low at the moment, but surely things will change in the coming months. Unlike the AppStore for iPhone or the one for iPad, in the Mac AppStore the applications are much more expensive, in fact on average the applications for Mac are 7 times more expensive than those for iPhone and 3 times more expensive than those for the iPad tablet . The information comes from a study done by a US computer analysis company that compared the prices of some applications from all AppStores.

Less than two months after the launch of the Mac App Store, a top 300 Mac application already generates half the revenue of a top 300 iPad application on average.

The average selling price of the top 300 applications is seven times higher in the Mac App Store ($11.21) than on the iPhone ($1.57) and almost three times higher than on the iPad ($4.19).

The AppStores are oriented towards cheap and many applications and the Mac AppStore is currently not close to this trend. Apple failed to convince too many developers to publish their applications in the Mac AppStore, but there is a chance that after the release of Mac OS X Lion things will change.
