Apple's new data center in North Carolina could start operating this spring

For more than a year, Apple has been building a huge data center in North Carolina that is supposed to be used for the new version of the MobileMe service that would be launched in the spring of this year. The data center should become operational in the same period of this year, at least this year support its analyst Toni Sacconaghi, from the Bernstein Research company, who would have discussed with some of the executives of the Apple company. Apparently, that center should have been put into operation at the end of 2010, but Apple postponed its opening for reasons still unknown.

Whether it's a new MobileMe service or an iTunes streaming service, that data center will be used by Apple for a very important project. Personally, I would like Apple to launch a new MobileMe service and offer free storage space and the ability to stream audio/video for iDevice owners. Few people pay $99 a year for MobileMe, and a free version would be a big plus for the Cupertino company.
