12.000 iPad 2 tablets sold on eBay, here's where they all ended up

This year eBay auctions for iPad 2 have generated no less than 12.000 sales in 2 weeks after the launch of the iPad 2 tablet. From March 11 to March 25, when the tablet was launched internationally, 12.000 tablets were sold on eBay, all purchased from the USA. 65% of these sold on American territory, while only 35% found a buyer on one of the other continents of the globe. As you can see in the image above, the African continent is quite poorly represented, but even South America did not have so many interested people.

Unsurprisingly the hard-to-get tablet has been moving briskly on the service, reaching just less than 12,000 sales in the two-week period between the US launch and the iPad 2's launch in 25 additional international countries.

On average, an iPad 2 Wi-Fi tablet was sold for $697, a price $200 higher than the one in the Apple Store. The most expensive iPad 2 tablet sold by Apple, the 3G 64GB model was sold on eBay with an average price of over $1200, so with an addition of over $400 per unit. These were the most popular models sold on eBay this year, but the number of Wi-Fi tablets was higher because since the day of launch Apple had prepared several Wi-Fi models in stores. The number is small, very small I would say because with the amount of demand there is now, I expected it to have sold at least twice as much.
