Exclusive: Internet tethering/Personal HotSpot free for Orange subscribers

I have announced yesterday in connection with a big surprise that Orange is preparing for its customers and today I have the pleasure to announce to you, first, what it is about. Starting today, all Orange subscribers will have the free modem aka Internet Tethering/Personal HotSpot option regardless of the phone they own. Both iPhone and other smartphone owners will have the opportunity to activate this option for free by calling the 408 service. If you have this paid option, then you must call 408 to request its deactivation and reactivation. Considering that everything happened today, there is a possibility that Orange's customer service operators do not know about this change yet, and my recommendation is to call Orange after 11:00 a.m. to activate the option.

The Internet Tethering/Personal HotSpot option is not offered for free abroad by all mobile phone operators and in Romania Vodafone does not offer it at all for iPhone owners. I, for one, welcome the initiative of those from Orange and I hope that in the future they will prepare other surprises that are at least as pleasant.

UPDATED: Together with the free offering of this option, Orange has also increased the internet browsing speed to 21 Mbps. Unfortunately the iPhone 4 is limited to only 7 Mbps.

UPDATE 2: Due to the large number of requests, the activation of the option will take several hours. I have already been waiting for 2 hours, so be patient or wait until tomorrow to activate the option. It seems that this news has reached the ears of many people and the activation servers have a lot of pending requests.

Don't forget, iDevice.ro presented the information exclusively, before it even appeared on Orange.ro
