Locationgate – the road to iOS 4.3.3/4.4

In the last few days, the problem was so intensely mediatized saving locations from iOS by iDevices without the users knowing about it. The news has already reached many TV stations in the US and around the world, so we are no longer talking about something that Apple can cover very easily. The company was already "questioned” by an American senator and other government agencies from certain European states, so the problem is quite complicated for Apple. However, don't think we're the only people whose smartphones record location data because Google has implemented a system similar in Android, but there we are talking about greater protection.

Until now, a method has been found to block saving users' locations, but we are talking about a method that involves jailbreaking the terminal, so it is not accessible to everyone. John Gruber said that this whole problem would actually be a bug of iOS and that Apple will solve it in a future iOS update, but when will this update come? I for one believe that Apple is already working on a new version of iOS 4.3.3/4.4 and in the following weeks we will have it available in iTunes.

For Apple, the problem is very delicate considering that it is now accused of violating users' privacy through this data saving system, but it must be taken into account that iOS applications use it. Our applications use that system to save geolocation data for pictures, movies, etc., so it's quite complicated to modify the whole system, but I think Apple will do it. The company has to do it because it's hard to support your case when so many people "put their guns" on you and ask you what you do with the respective data, who you give it to and why you register it.

iOS 4.3.3/4.4 is close, I think, and after Easter we will probably hear rumors about its possible release and what it will bring.
