iOS ranks 3rd in the top of the most used operating systems in the world

In the conference for the presentation of the financial results of the last quarter of the fiscal year, Apple announced that it sold almost 200 million iDevices in only almost 4 years of availability. For the company, the figure is very high and in the next 3 months Apple will sell enough devices to exceed the figure of 200 million. Considering these sales, we would think that iOS is among the most used operating systems on the planet, right? Well, according to a recent study Apple's iOS occupies the 3rd place in the top operating systems used in the world, the first 2 places being occupied by Windows and Mac OS X.

Yes, you read that right, iOS is in the top of the most used operating systems in the world, ahead of only Windows and Mac OS X. We are talking about all available operating systems and the very large number of iDevices sold has helped- on Apple to have 2 operating systems on the podium in this top. At the moment, iOS has a 2.24% market share globally, increasing by 0.4% in just 30 days. To have an operating system for mobile terminals on the podium with Windows and Mac OS X is a real achievement, especially if we consider that Android OS has only 0.6% market share.

Of the 2.24 percent owned by iOS, 1.23% belong to the iPhone, 0.82% to the iPad tablet and 0.19% to the iPod Touch. iOS has registered a higher growth than Mac OS X lately and it is normal to be like that considering that we are talking about much more terminals sold. At this rate, iOS will overtake Mac OS X in terms of market share and will fall behind Windows, which now holds 89% of the market.

It's absolutely amazing to see an operating system for mobile terminals coming in 3rd place behind desktop systems. This is just the beginning because iDevices are recording better and better sales.
