One third of iDevices in China are jailbroken

China has become the most important market for Apple products because 10% of the company's profit is generated only from sales in this country. Apple sells there iPhone 3GS/4 and iPad tablets and a third of these products I'm jailbroken. More precisely, 34.6% of all iDevices are jailbroken, but the percentage reaches 40% in the case of iPhone terminals. The information is more than credible considering that last year certain stores sold iPhone terminals ready to be jailbroken in order to attract as many customers as possible.

Here is what information a statistics company managed to gather about the owners of iDevices in China:

  • Phone 4 is the most popular iOS device which takes 54% of the market share; iPhone 3GS takes the 2nd with 16.1%;
  • Most of the iOS devices have been upgraded to 4.1 or above;
  • On average, 34.6% of iOS devices have been jailbroken. Particularly, the percentage of jailbroken iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 are close to 40%. iOS users are relatively less interested in jailbreaking iPad, only 27% of iPads are jailbroken;
  • Users are willing to use iPhone more in daytime (before 7pm), and after 7pm iPad is a better choice;
  • Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Zhejiang, Jiangsu are the major cities/provinces where 52% of iOS users are based

For Apple, these percentages are very important because we are talking about a very large number of iDevices sold and jailbreaks there, a very important place for Apple. I assume that in other countries the situation is different and I assume again that in Romania there is a similar percentage.
