How important is the brand in the purchase of a product?

In 2008, I bought my first iPhone, a 3G coded on a network I don't know where, but which had the iOS that was starting to fascinate the world. At first I didn't know much about Apple, I only knew that an iPhone was much better than my N73 and that Symbian had to become just a memory. Android was at the beginning, people weren't happy with it, so after a little research I decided that the iPhone was the versatile phone I needed.

Not knowing much about Apple, I didn't consider the company's brand when I made the purchase, but the iPhone brand didn't matter too much either. For me, utility came first, what can I do on the phone with the existing applications in the AppStore, how does Internet browsing work, how well does the GPS work, etc. I rarely took into account the brand of a product when I made a purchase and if that was the case then I relied on previous experiences with similar products and not on the name of the company/product itself. Many people support the fact that behind Apple products there is pure marketing and nothing more, but when you start working with a product of the company you realize that it is not really like that.
