Mac Guard – a more dangerous malware than Mac Defender

Mac Defender is a new type of malware for Mac OS X that gave Apple a lot of trouble because the company's call centers were attacked by customers who infected their Macs. Apple announced last night that it will release an update for Mac OS X that will delete Mac Defender from infected Macs, but in the meantime a more advanced version of the malware appeared. Mac Guard it's called the new version and it's much more dangerous than its predecessor because it doesn't require an administrator password to install.

Mac Guard must be run by the user and the malware first downloads a payload from a certain server, that payload is run and in the second part of the process the user must enter his credit card details to clean the system of viruses. Of course, that data goes to the people who designed the malware and system disinfection does not take place in any form. If you have a Mac, be very careful not to install Mac Defender or Mac Guard on your Mac in any way.
