The autonomy of the battery of the iPhone terminal - 14 methods by which you can improve it

Ever since the launch of the first iPhone model, there have been discussions about the autonomy of the device's battery. Every year Apple implements new features and hardware for them and the batteries grow in capacity to support them. Even in these conditions, battery autonomy is not the strong point of iPhones, but the way you use the terminal influences the effective time of use. Keeping certain functions active or using certain applications can increase or decrease battery autonomy. In the following I will try to explain certain methods by which you can improve the autonomy of your terminal's battery.

  1. Set the screen brightness to a low value. The screen is by far the biggest energy consumer of your terminal and setting its brightness to a low value will significantly increase the battery life. iOS has a function that automatically controls the brightness depending on the environment you are in, but if you keep this function active you will consume more energy than if you manually set the brightness to a low value.
  2. Close the Wi-Fi connection. If you do not connect to the Internet, then it is good to have Wi-Fi turned off all the time because your terminal constantly checks if there are networks available nearby to connect you to the Internet.
  3. Turn off 3G. The 3G connection requires much more energy than an EDGE or GPRS connection, so if you don't need the Internet, it's better to leave 3G turned off.
  4. Turn off push notifications. Another big power drain is push notifications because your device is constantly connected to Apple's servers to check if there are any notifications for your apps. If you have the Internet closed but the notifications open, the terminal will consume as much energy trying to connect to Apple's servers even though it cannot.
  5. Close the Bluetooth function. If you do not have an accessory compatible with Bluetooth technology, then it is advisable to close this function because the terminal will constantly search for compatible devices and will unnecessarily waste autonomy.
  6. Turn off the GPS function. Location Services or the GPS function requires a lot of energy to work because many of the applications we use daily use GPS to position us on the map. It is advisable to close the GPS function when you are not using it.
  7. Close applications open in the background. Starting with iOS 4, applications are no longer closed automatically but remain open in the background because we now have multitasking. It is advisable to close them manually from the task switcher because you will free up phone resources but you will also improve battery autonomy.
  8. Disable the Push/Fetch option for the Mail application. If you are waiting for an important email, then this function is very helpful, but if you use the Mail application only occasionally, then it is good to close the Push/Fetch function in Settings/Mail and Contacts.
  9. Do not use applications with 3D graphics. The graphics chip and the processor require a lot of energy to function and games or applications with 3D graphics will require these components. The terminal will heat up and consume the battery faster than 3G or the GPS function.
  10. Set the Auto Lock function. This function automatically blocks our terminal when we do not use it and I recommend you to always set it to the value of 1 minute because it will reduce the brightness of the screen after a few seconds and block the device after 1 minute. The increase in autonomy is significant.
  11. Turn off the EQ in the iPod app. EQ or the digital equalizer of the iPod application allows us to add some effects to our songs, but it affects the battery life. It is advisable to keep it closed even when listening to music.
  12. Turn off sounds and vibrations. If you use the keyboard of your device very often, then it would be advisable to turn off the sounds you hear when you press a key. Although it may seem to you that it does not consume much, you will see that in the long term it helps to close them. The chip for vibrations in your terminal consumes enough energy when you play games or when you receive a message or phone call. Closing it will help improve battery life.
  13. Using unmodified iOS. You all know that modifying the operating system and installing various tweaks has a huge impact on battery life. If you want good autonomy, keep iOS clean.
  14. It is also recommended to keep the terminal at an ambient temperature and to close it when it gets excessively hot. I don't really think it will help, but you can also take this advice into consideration.

I explained above a multitude of methods by which you can improve the autonomy of your device, I know that some of them involve giving up functions that you use constantly, but that's the only way you can increase the autonomy of the battery. It is ideal to juggle the functions and keep them active only when you use them and you will surely be satisfied with the autonomy of your terminal. I hope that the iPhone 5 will have a stronger battery and that we will no longer have to use certain functions only when we need them.
