Here's why the iPhone 4S/5 could be presented at WWDC 2011

Apple has confirmed today that Steve Jobs will present this year's WWDC, he confirmed that we will see the new versions of Mac OS X Lion and iOS 5 but he surprised by confirming the presentation of iCloud, an audio streaming service made especially for Apple products. What Apple forgot to mention is the iPhone 4S/5 that many people are eagerly waiting for. I assume that you all know about the rumors related to the launch in July/August/September/2012 of the iPhone 4S/5, so I will not go into this discussion, but I will present you some important arguments that suggest that the iPhone 4S/5 could still be presented at WWDC 2011 , no matter what the release date will be.

In the last 2 years, Apple announced the WWDC as a convention for iOS application developers. Every year Apple spoke in its press releases about iOS or Mac OS but never spoke about the launch of an iPhone, not even last year when we knew what the iPhone 4 looked like a month before the presentation. For Apple, WWDC is dedicated to developers, hence its name, and the fact that the iPhone is not mentioned in invitations or press releases does not mean that it will not be present. Some American journalists claimed that the lack of mention regarding the launch of an iPhone terminal would represent the fact that this device will not be presented in any form at WWDC 2011. The lack of this mention together with the countless rumors regarding the postponement of the launch made everyone believe that iPhone 4S/5 will be presented in autumn or next year.

If we look at Apple's press releases from 2009/2010 regarding the WWDC, we notice that there was never any talk about the launch of an iPhone, but every time the device was present and the new operating system was demonstrated on it. Every year the new version of iOS has been introduced on a new iPhone, why would this year be any different? I could be wrong, things could be different, but the tradition and the events of the past years tell us that Apple keeps the iPhone secret, but it presents the important functions of the new operating system.

Even if the iPhone 4S/5 will actually be released in the fall of this year or in the middle of summer, I think that Apple will present it at WWDC 2011 together with the new version of iOS 5.
