A new version of Mac Defender available, is immune to the patch released yesterday by Apple

Yesterday I told you that Apple launched a new update for Mac OS X which aimed to neutralize the Mac Defender malware that has infected a considerable number of Macs recently. After the update, many Mac owners breathed a sigh of relief knowing that their computer was cleaned of malware and they are safe. Unfortunately, today it appeared new release a Mac Defender known under the name of Mdinstall.pkg which is immune to the protection system made yesterday by Apple. The new version of Mac Defender can infect the Macs of those who are not careful and let themselves be fooled, and Mac OS X will treat the malware like any other application.

Hours after Apple released this update and the initial set of definitions, a new variation of Mac Defender is in the wild. This one has a new name, Mdinstall.pkg, and it has been specifically formulated to skate past Apple's malware-blocking code.

The file has a date and time stamp from last night at 9:24PM Pacific time. That's less than 8 hours after Apple's security update was released.

This new version of Mac Defender was released only 8 hours after the Apple company update, so I assume that from now on no matter what update Apple releases after it, a new version of malware will come out. The good part is that Apple has implemented a system that allows updating definitions for malware, so as soon as Apple updates the database with the new version of Mac Defender, Mac OS X should delete it from the computer. Until this happens, be careful what you install from the Internet.
