Nokia N9 has the fastest smartphone camera until iOS 5?

Yesterday, Nokia presented to the whole world the new N9 terminal with a slightly modified design and a new operating system, Meego OS. I discussed yesterday about the terminal in this article and today I want to discuss a key point that Nokia is promoting with the N9 terminal. On blog the company was presented with some of the key points of the new terminal and among them was presented the supremacy of the camera of the N9 terminal compared to others available for smartphones. The supremacy boils down to the speed with which pictures are taken, Nokia boasting that the N9 has the fastest camera for smartphones. They claim that in just 2.6 seconds the camera application opens, auto-focuses, activates the viewfinder and records the picture.

Once you press the on-screen camera key, the image is taken immediately. It's the fastest image-capturing phone on the market. In order to take a photo, a series of events must occur: the camera is turned on, the viewfinder is ready, focus on the subject and the image is captured. On the Nokia N9, this all happens in 2.6 seconds – much faster than our competitors. The HTC HD7 does all this in 8.3 seconds, the Samsung i5500 Galaxy 5 takes 5.8 seconds and the Apple iPhone 4 does this in 3 seconds. We've made sure the camera experience is as smooth and as fast as possible.

Making a comparison, the people from Nokia say that the iPhone 4 terminal makes exactly the same movements in just 3 seconds, so 0.4 seconds more "harder" than the camera in the Nokia N9. The truth is that yes, the camera opens extremely quickly when you have a button in the LockScreen and in iOS Apple has improved the speed of opening the camera and capturing pictures. Those from 9to5mac I claim that iOS 5 will bring improvements to the performance of the Camera application that will make the iPhone 4 the terminal with the fastest camera in the world. If it will be like this or not, we will find out only in the fall.

The post on the Nokia blog mentions some features of the new terminal that I, for one, would like to see on the iPhone as well: video recording in 1080p format at 30 fps, continuous autofocus, dual-LED flash, automatic motion blur reduction and facial recognition . I don't think we will see too many of these functions in iOS too soon, but we can dream about them.
