The iPhone 3GS could be Apple's $350 mid-end smartphone

Yesterday I presented "prophecy" to an American analyst who claimed that in the fall Apple will launch not one but two new iPhone terminals, one high-end called iPhone 5 and one mid-end called iPhone 4S. He bases his theory on the fact that Apple does not have a terminal with which to "attack" the prepaid market and this year the company could launch a device priced at only $350 that would generate very good sales in the prepaid segment. Of course, everything was just a presumption that in reality could be extremely far from the truth.

Considering what was said yesterday, today another American analyst stated that Apple will keep the iPhone 3GS terminal in production and will sell at a much lower price than iPhone 4/5. Under these conditions, Apple will launch the iPhone 5 in the fall, the iPhone 4 will be available in stores only in the 8GB version, which will be $100/€ cheaper than the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 3GS will probably be available for $350. The move is logical, practically Apple not having to make many changes apart from continuing the production of 3 GB iPhone 8GS terminals that will be available for the prepaid market.

I have a message in to Bachman, as the changed view is not slightly mysterious. Bachman's note from March 30th on the matter had already described the next iPhone model as shipping "late in the September quarter," so what adjustment there has been is not immediately clear. Of course, a week or two of sales of a new product, especially the iPhone, can mean a big difference in the sales counted in a given period.

This theory is much better developed than yesterday's and I for one see it as having a much greater chance of being fulfilled.
