Apple could allow the installation of Mac OS X Lion in Apple stores with the help of Mac Pros

Mac OS X Lion will be Apple's first desktop operating system to be available exclusively through the Mac App Store. Considering that the operating system is much more than 3 GB, for some there might be a problem in downloading the entire installation package from the App Store. Americans don't have 100Mbps connections like we have in all cities, so downloading over 3GB with only a few hundred KB per second could take a good few hours for many users.

Furthermore we've heard rumblings that some stores will be receiving maxed out Mac Pro towers to be used as Lion distribution caching centers. Some believe that these stations would allow customers to purchase Lion (3.5GB) from the Mac App store and download it directly from the store server in minutes. This would be a huge help to customers who do not have access to a broadband Internet connection or users who want to walk through the installation process with an Apple employee during a personal training session.

For to ease the process of downloading Mac OS X Lion, Apple could install in its own stores some Mac Pros that will deliver Mac OS X Lion via Wi-Fi networks for customers willing to install it. Practically, if you have a Mac, you could go to the Apple Store where you will connect to a local Wi-Fi network and you will be able to download Mac OS X Lion at a much higher speed than ADSL, broadband at home. The idea is very interesting and certainly many users will be happy to know that they can install Mac OS X Lion much faster and in addition they will be able to benefit from assistance at the store if they need it.

Of course, this is just a rumor, but this morning several Apple stores received Mac Pros with very powerful hardware configurations, so anything is possible.
