Last week Apple launched a new MacBook Air line and I have you submitted then some benchmarks for the performance of the new products. Unfortunately this week it was discovered that MacBooks come with 2 types of SSDs (hard drives implemented by Apple), one from Samsung and one from Toshiba. Among the 2, the one from the Toshiba company has 30-40% lower performance in some cases, but the worst part is that the performance is even lower than the 2010 version of the MacBook Airs. In practice, in tests, a Samsung SSD obtained a score of 246MB/s for writing and 262MB/s for reading, and a Toshiba SSD obtained a score of 156MB/s for writing and 208MB/s for reading, and here we are only talking about the version of 128GB.

The Toshiba SSDs were included only in the 13-inch MacBook Airs, apparently, and the 11-inch model was equipped with the faster Samsung SSD. In the clip you have a very simple method to check if the SSD of a MacBook Air is manufactured by Toshiba or Samsung. At the moment there is no reason to replace an Air with an SSD manufactured by Toshiba because all the products available in stores have the same SSD, so you have to get used to the idea that you will have slightly lower performance.
