Apple is looking for partners for the production of the A6 chip, abandoning Samsung

The "marriage" between Apple and Samsung seems to be coming to an end due to the recent lawsuits regarding patents infringed by the Asian company. After obtaining a victory in the Netherlands before a specialized patent court, Apple seems interested in giving up the collaboration with Samsung regarding the production of the A6 chip for the iPad 3 tablet and the iPhone 6 terminal. After the negotiations taken with TSMC, Apple seems to be courting SPIL (Siliconware Precision Industries) for a possible collaboration regarding the production of the A6 chip.

Packaging and testing firm Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) is likely to snatch outsourcing orders for Apple's new processor dubbed A6, according to industry sources.

Apple recently conducted a visit to SPIL's assembly line, and both parties discussed opportunities for cooperation, the sources revealed. SPIL stands a chance of becoming the first packaging and testing service provider designated by Apple, cutting into the supply chain of the vendor's processor line, the sources said.

Of course, SPIL denied that it was in negotiations with Apple, but those from DigiTimes managed to obtain information from sources close to the 2 companies who claim that certain members of the Apple company would have discussed with representatives of SPIL regarding a possible collaboration. It seems that Apple representatives visited a production line of the SPIL company and based on what they saw there, it seems that there is a desire on the part of the Cupertino company to negotiate a possible contract.

If Apple will choose TSMC and SPIL in favor of those from Samsung, then the Asian company will lose several billion dollars and this could be just the beginning.
