Mac OS X reaches a 6% market share globally

Mac OS X, Apple's operating system, reached a market share of 6.03% globally according to a study published by a market analysis agency. The market share of those from Apple increased by almost 0.5% in just over 3 months and we are talking about an important increase for a closed operating system, available only on one platform. The Lion version launched on July 20 also contributed to the increase recorded by Mac OS X, the new version of the operating system totaling over 1% of the Mac OS X market share globally.

At the moment, most Mac owners still use the Snow Leopard version, which accounts for 3.46% of the market share of the operating system. For now, Apple's operating system ranks second globally in terms of market share, Windows remaining "king" even after so many years since its official launch. Even if Mac OS X is growing slowly but surely, it will probably take at least 2 years until its market share reaches at least 10% - 25% globally.
