BitDefender Total Security 2012 review

After a successful rebranding, the company Bitdefender Antivirus launched in Romania a new suite of programs for the protection of our PCs. Total Security 2012, Internet Security 2012 si Antivirus Plus 2012 were launched during a conference that took place in Bucharest a few weeks ago and I had the opportunity to test BitDefender Total Security 2012, the most complete suite of all. If you are looking for a program to keep your computer safe from viruses, to protect it against attacks or malware, then BitDefender's solution is the most suitable.

I expect an antivirus to protect my computer from any kind of viruses/malware/flood attacks, etc. and not to consume many resources while doing so, and BitDefender Total Security 2012 does exactly what I need. The developers of the program used a technology called Scan Dispatcher that checks the resources available in the system and schedules the scans so that they are done only when the system is idle or tasks that require a lot of resources are not being run. Regarding the installation of the product, in 5 minutes I solved everything and I benefited from a free scan of the system plus an update of the definitions available for the current month.

The interface of the new program is intuitive, it gives the user access to the main functions right from the first screen, and the Auto Pilot function implemented by the developers ensures that the antivirus is permanently on and vigilant to protect us. Unfortunately, the web page scanning function implemented by BitDefender makes browsing the web difficult, and unfortunately, activating all the firewall functions has the same effect, but with a little support from the company, I managed to bring everything back to normal. This kind of functions are useful because they prevent us from accessing web pages infected with viruses or malware, but to be protected we have to give up speed, but the choice is everyone's.

Besides the possibility of scanning viruses and tweaking our PC, BitDefender offers us the possibility of using a system called SafeBox which is essentially an online storage medium for important files. What BitDefender offers is similar to DropBox, for example, but the good part about the system offered by BitDefender is that their system checks all uploaded files to ensure that they are virus/malware free and thus will not infect our computer or others when they are downloaded. Unfortunately, the system only works on computers that have BitDefender installed, so you have to get a license for several computers if you want to transfer files from home to work, etc.

All in all, BitDefender Total Security 2012 is the most complete solution for protecting our computer available for €65 online. If you still want something "lighter", then you can try BitDefender Internet Security 2012 or Antivirus Plus 2012, which are essentially 2 different entities that together form Total Security 2012.

Finally, I bring to your attention a new antivirus concept now tested by BitDefender and named Gonzales. The Romanian company claims that the new antivirus greatly simplifies the process of maintaining an antivirus, but that doesn't mean you have to compromise on speed, security or resource consumption. The interesting part is that you can test Gonzales now and if you provide valuable feedback for the BitDefender company you have the opportunity to win some very nice prizes.
