Over 500.000 applications supported in the Android Market

Google announced Today, over 500.000 applications have been accepted in the Android Market so far, 100.000 less than Apple approved in the App Store. Of these 500.000 approved applications, 37% were withdrawn in the meantime, the figure being 13% higher than the one offered by Apple for withdrawals. It was rumored that in the months of August - September Android Market will reach the App Store in terms of the number of available applications, but this did not happen and I don't think it will happen this year considering the way things are going.

The actual total number of applications published on the Android Market jumped to over 500,000 in September 2011. Meanwhile, the Apple App Store stands at just over 600,000 successful submissions: just 20% more. But over 37% of the published applications were later removed from the Android Market for various reasons, whereas the Apple App Store has removed just 24% of published apps in comparison, as of the end of September.

Although both application stores can boast of hundreds of thousands of titles available on offer, unfortunately, extremely many of them are incredibly useless. Both in the Android Market and in the App Store there are far too many applications whose utility does not justify the price that the developers ask for them and of course there are many applications whose false description urges users to spend money on functions that do not exist. Between Apple and Google there is a "race" for the approval of applications and unfortunately the users are the ones who suffer because applications arrive in both stores that sometimes do not even respect the elementary rules imposed by the companies for approval.
