Google launches Google Music, a rival to iTunes Match

Last evening, Google launched a new service called Google Music, a service that has been available in beta for several months and is essentially a rival to iTunes Match. Google offers its users the opportunity to upload their own songs to the company's servers and listen to them for free either online or offline, with a maximum limit of 20.000 songs. Like iTunes Match, Google will upload any kind of songs to its servers, regardless of whether they were purchased or simply downloaded from the Internet. The big difference between the two services lies in the fact that on iOS you have to pay $25 annually for what Google offers you for free and you also get the possibility to synchronize 5.000 more songs.

Along with the streaming and uploading of songs, Google launched a music store, identical to the iTunes Music Store, but with much fewer songs. Google currently offers only 8 million songs and has no agreements with Warner Music, but in the future these things will change. Google did not bring something new for users, but brought a free service that will soon be available for the iOS platform through an application from the App Store. Now I'm curious how Apple will sell iTunes Match when Google Music will be free and will be available on iOS through an application. Of course, all those who have a music library bought from iTunes will stay with Apple, but those who are only now getting an iDevice? Google Music is currently available exclusively in the US.

  1. it is very easy to use Google Music in Romania. I've been using it since the beta was released; you just have to activate it from a US IP (there are many solutions) and then it can be accessed with a Romanian IP.

  2. I don't understand why you think this is so stupid. At iTunes Match you really pay 25 dollars but the number of songs is unlimited, if you want you can upload a million songs. In fact, you don't have to upload them, it recognizes the songs you have and makes them available in iCloud for free, what's more, it offers them at 256 kbps quality compared to 128 or what you had before. If you want to upload music, how long does it take to upload 20000 songs online? I prefer iTunes Match, it works very well if you have an Apple account made in the States, it also works here...
