Apple gets a one-week extension of the ban on the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia

The other day I told you that Samsung managed to get a postponement of the ban on the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Australia, but also that Apple will appeal this decision. For now, the American company has succeeded to expand with one week of the sales ban, during which time he will file an appeal against the decision to temporarily postpone the ban. With this extension Apple is trying to keep the tablet away from consumers while the lawyers think about how they could formulate a convincing strategy for the appeal.

High Court Justice John Dyson Heydon today extended the ban on the release of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 to Dec. 9. On that day, the country's top court will consider Apple's request for permission to appeal a lower court's order issued earlier this week, which lifted a ban on the product that has been in place since mid-October.

"A stay for one week will cost Samsung, in effect, one week's trade," Heydon said, following a 90-minute hearing in Sydney. The extension will hurt Samsung "but not to extend the status quo is likely to be injurious to Apple," he said.

Those from Samsung were preparing to launch the tablet on the market today, but since the Australian authorities have decided that this will not be possible, the wait continues for both customers and the company's management. It will be interesting to see how Apple will try to convince the Australian court that a ban on the sale of Samsung tablets should still be imposed, especially since the judges have already decided to suspend it once.
