Sharp launches new 12 megapixel camera sensors for smartphones

The Sharp company, one of Apple's future collaborators, submitted recently the newest sensor for cameras dedicated to mobile terminals. We are talking about a 12 megapixel sensor that is smaller than those implemented in current smartphones, so we may see it available in the terminals that will be launched next year. The new sensor has an image stabilizer and films in Full HD 1080p format, and in terms of dimensions, we are talking about 11mm on all sides and only 5.47mm thick.

Practically, the new sensor produced by Sharp is smaller than the one in the current iPhone 4S and in the idea of making smartphones thinner, those from Apple could implement such a solution if it turns out to be better and cheaper than the available ones already for the company. An iPhone 5 with a 12 megapixel sensor that would stabilize both images and video recording would be excellent for a new iPhone terminal, now it remains to be seen if Apple will consider its implementation appropriate.
