Tutorial: Change the Slide to Unlock text and other LockScreen expressions without tweaks

  In recent months, more and more tweaks have appeared in Cydia that modify various aspects of iOS, but unfortunately some of them are either not compatible with other tweaks or unnecessarily load the RAM of our iDevices. A very large part of the changes made by these tweaks can be done by yourself right from your iDevice or using a computer. Today I will teach you how to change the slider text for unlocking an iDevice and to do this you need one of the following programs:

  1. the iFile application from Cydia to make the change directly from any iDevice;
  2. ifunbox available here to make the change from a Windows computer;
  3. iExplorer available here to make the change from a Mac.

 After you have chosen the desired solution, follow the steps below and upon completion you will have any text written in the Slider for unlocking your iDevice. The tutorial works on iOS 5 and older versions.

  1. Navigate to: System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/English.lproj(or ro.lproj if you have the Romanian language set).
  2. Open the file SpringBoard.strings on iDevice using iFile's Text Viewer function. On Mac or PC you have to copy the file to the computer and open it with a text editor.
  3. Search for the word slide to unlock(in iFile you have a search button at the bottom left) which you should find next to the string AWAY_LOCK_LABEL. Modify the slide to unlock with the text you want, but you must limit yourself to a maximum of 3 short words, otherwise the text will not be displayed.
  4. Save the file from iFile. From the computer, do the same thing and copy it over the existing one in the iDevice.
  5. Respring or restart your iDevice and when it restarts you will notice the change.

  From the same SpringBoard.strings file, you can change the text that appears when someone calls you by searching and replacing the slide to answer entry, but you can also change any errors that are displayed there. It is up to you to modify what you want, but remember that the replaced expression must not be longer than the original one. After modifying the file, copy it back to the terminal or save it from iFile and reset the device.
