Apple uses 3 suppliers for Retina Display production, it could have problems with stocks in the future

The new iPad tablet comes with a Retina Display that has 4 times more pixels than the screen of the iPad 2 tablet and a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. To produce a screen with such a resolution, Apple contracted 3 companies: Samsung, LG and Sharp and the manufacturing process it turns out to be extremely difficult. Apple's partners use a technology called "a-SI TFT" to produce the new screens and it seems that the whole process would be extremely elaborate and would cause big problems for them and in the future we could witness high delivery times for the new product.

Packing four times the pixels into the new iPad's Retina Display has proven to be a challenge for Apple's manufacturing partners, who are utilizing advanced technology like Super High Aperture pixel design and packing in double the LEDs for backlighting. The three companies are said to be relying on a production process known as "a-Si TFT," which has proven to be particularly difficult, as Apple's Retina Display requirements are reportedly testing the upper limits of the technology.

The interesting part is that in this screen twice as many LEDs are used for backlighting and I hope that this year the tablet will not have problems with backlight bleeding as we saw last year with the iPad 2. Considering that we are talking about a new technology we can expect problems to exist for those who receive the first products, but it remains to be seen how "serious" they will be and what difficulties Apple will have in solving them quickly.
