The Apple store in New York would have sold 13.000 iPad tablets in the first 12 hours after the launch

Although Apple and AT&T did not want to provide details about record sales that the iPad tablet recorded on the day of launch, here it is The Verge managed to obtain some unofficial figures from sources inside the Cupertino company. It seems that no less than 13.000 iPad tablets would have been sold in the Apple store in New York in just 12 hours after the launch and the daily receipts would have increased 10 times on Friday. The figure is unofficial, but if it is true, then it puts the record that iPad 3 set for Apple into perspective.

Here's what we're hearing: within the first 12 hours of the iPad's launch — between 8AM and 8PM local time — the store sold over 13,000 new iPads, an average of about 18 per minute. Daily store revenue, which typically falls between $700,000 to $1 million this quarter, was up to $11.5 million on launch day. On the supply side, the Fifth Avenue store had more iPads out of any store in the US — not surprising at all given its landmark status, but also partly in reaction to last year's iPad 2 launch, where they were selling out faster than employees could open boxes.

This year Apple would have sold 18 tablets per minute in that store in New York, more than last year when employees could not open the tablets fast enough to sell them to customers. Although Apple says absolutely nothing about the demand registered for the iPad 3 tablet, it seems that extremely many people have bought the device in the last 4 days.
