Siri could reach the Mac thanks to the iPhone terminal

Siri is an extremely popular feature of iOS 5 and a lot of people want to install it on various iDevices, but Apple is thinking of bringing it to Macs in a new way. Siri will not work on Mac as it does on iPhone 4S, but using the terminal we will be able to control various functions of Macs. Practically, by connecting the iPhone to the Mac, the functionality of Siri will be extended to it, and users will be able to interact with the assistant and will probably be able to run various commands in the operating system for Macs. The patent registered to the Apple company says that the company's servers would still be necessary for Siri to work properly, so the current functionality will not be changed much.

But Apple's latest patent application also describes "a remote device communicatively coupled to the electronic device" that runs Siri. By pairing the iPhone 4S to a second device, like a Mac running OS X, users could extend Siri functionality to that device. Listed as potential devices to be included in the pairing are laptop and desktop computers. Siri capabilities could even come to devices less functional than a Mac, as the application notes that only one of the electronic devices included in the pairing needs a microphone, processor and storage device. The paired device could be tethered through a wired connection and could gain voice control functionality in that manner as well.

Another interesting novelty related to Siri is the assistant's ability to distinguish users through voice recognition software. Siri would know which user is controlling it and could offer personalized commands for the device they are using. Of course, all these functions are part of a patent, so it is not known if they will ever be implemented in future iDevices/Macs, but the ideas from Apple are very interesting.
