Tutorial: How to jailbreak Apple TV 2G on iOS 5(5.1) with Seas0nPass

This morning I told you that a jailbreak solution called Seas0nPass allows you to do tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0(5.1) for Apple TV 2G. Unfortunately, the solution is tethered, so you will have to start the Apple TV with a Mac or PC every time, but the good part is that you will be able to use the new interface from iOS 5 plus some of the old programs thanks to the new version of Seas0nPass. This tutorial can be used on both Windows and Mac, so it doesn't matter which operating system you run on your computer.

To jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 you can follow the same tutorial, but download the latest version of Seas0npass available here.

Step 1

  1. Download iOS 5.0 available here.
  2. Download Seas0nPass here: Windows, Mac.
  3. Download the latest version of iTunes available here.

Step 2

Open the Seas0nPass application on your computer and press the Create IPSW button. At this moment the program will download the latest version of iOS 5.0 for Apple TV 2G and make a custom ipsw.

Step 3

When the program asks you to do so, connect the Apple TV to the computer using a micro USB cable, but do not connect it to a power source. When the Apple TV light starts flashing, point the remote control at it, simultaneously press the Home + Menu buttons and keep them pressed for 7 seconds.

Step 4

After the device enters DFU Mode, iTunes will open and automatically start installing the custom ipsw you made with Seas0nPass.

After the ipsw has been installed, iTunes will confirm this and in the Apple TV interface the Settings icon will be displayed as you can see in the image below.

Considering that we are talking about a tethered jailbreak, you must bear in mind that the Apple TV must always be turned on using a computer and below you have the necessary steps to turn it on tethered. You must follow them every time you close the Apple TV.

Step 1

Open Seas0nPass on your computer and select the Boot Tethered option.

Step 2

When the program asks, connect the Apple TV to the computer using a micro-USB cable and after the Apple TV light starts flashing you will also connect the power cable. Now point the remote control at the Apple TV, simultaneously press the Home + Menu buttons and hold them down for 7 seconds.

Step 3

Seas0nPass will display a message when the tethered boot is complete and then you can disconnect the micro-USB cable and connect the HDMI one.

This is the whole process, now you can use your Apple TV without any problems.
