The British Parliament equips itself with 650 iPad tablets

Because they are so beautiful and so useful, iPad tablets will replace the old laptops of British MPs, the state going to buy no less than 650 products of the Apple company. Tablets will be received only by those who agree to leave their old laptops at the institution and receive a tablet instead, and the cost of the entire project amounts to approximately $420.000. The idea is not new, other governments opting for offering iDevices to employees, but few governments are able to support such a financial effort.

Taxpayers, however, might be less impressed given that the upgrade from laptops to Apple iPads will cost anything between £260,000 and £430,000 to the public purse. That expense only covers the bulk price tag for the kit and doesn't include the cost of running apps and downloading data onto the mobile tablets. MPs will be asked to trade old laptops or computers in exchange for an iPad, the cost of which can be claimed on expenses. They have to agree to receive documents about parliamentary business on the fondleslabs rather than have that information printed out on paper.

In Romania, I noticed that many politicians use Apple tablets in the Parliament, I don't think that the state buys them such devices, but it is good to know that some are in step with technology, and when the government announces measures of this kind, few people will be surprised by the decision.
