Tutorial: Absinthe 2.0 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on iOS 5.1.1 (Windows, Mac)

Two months after the release of iOS 5.1 and more than two weeks after the release of iOS 5.1.1, we finally have Absinthe 2.0 available, the untethered jailbreak solution for our iDevices. Using this program you can jailbreak any iDevice on iOS 5.1.1, but on iOS 5.1 you can only jailbreak terminals released before the iPad 2 tablet. Even so, anyone can now update to iOS 5.1.1 via iTunes, so the solution can be used by anyone without problems.

Compatible terminals for iOS 5.1.1:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4;
  • iPhone 4S;
  • iPod Touch 3G
  • iPod Touch 4G
  • iPad 1;
  • iPad 2 Wi-Fi;
  • iPad 2 3G;
  • iPad 2 2012;
  • 3 iPad Wi-Fi
  • iPad 3 Wi-Fi + 4G;

Incompatible terminals:

  • Apple TV 3.

If you have an old version of iOS, you need an unlock and you want to do an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1, it is advisable to make a custom ipsw with redsn0w and use that one for the update. That custom ipsw keeps the baseband of your iDevice intact and ensures the possibility of using a Gevey card for unlocking. Ultrasn0w is not compatible with iOS 5.1.1, however ultrasn0w fixer for iOS 5.1.1 it will give you the opportunity to unlock without problems if you have an unlockable baseband.

If you have decoded with SAM and saved it on your computer, then this tutorial it will help you restore it after jailbreak. It doesn't matter what baseband you have, the decoding will be done anyway.

If you already have a tethered jailbreak done on iOS 5.1.1, then follow this tutorial to untethered jailbreak using Rocky Racoon. Absinthe does not hackBut using sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 you can make a custom ipsw activated and untethered jailbroken for iDevices released before iPad 2.

Step 1

Download Absinthe 2.0.2 by here.

Step 2 – optional step

Connect the iDevice to the computer and open iTunes. Select the iDevice from the menu on the right, then choose the back up option to make a backup of your iDevice. After performing this operation, go to Settings>General>Reset and choose the Reset all content and settings option. Choosing these options will ensure a quick jailbreak. Performing the backup is optional and is intended to reduce the time of performing the jailbreak.

Step 3

After deleting the content, open Absinthe 2.0 and a window will open with a lot of chorus lines that will run for a few minutes and then stop. This process basically builds the jailbreak program for your iDevice, and after it finishes you will see a new Absinthe folder in the folder where you already downloaded the executable.

Step 4

Access the Absinthe.exe executable from the newly created folder and press the Jailbreak button, then let the program do its job. After pressing the Jailbreak button, the program will start implementing the exploit and your iDevice will go through several states, including Restore, but don't be alarmed, everything is perfectly normal. The process itself should take a maximum of 5 minutes depending on your computer. If you have a PIN set to the card, enter it after resetting the iDevice, otherwise the jailbreak will not be complete.

Step 5

After finishing the jailbreak, reconnect the iDevice to iTunes, select it from the menu on the right and choose the Restore from backup option (if you made an initial backup). iTunes will restore the backup you made and that's it.

After resetting the device, you should have Cydia installed and able to use it. Do not forget that in the days immediately following the release of the Cydia jailbreak solution, it will have functionality problems.

About iOS jailbreaking: iOS jailbreaking, or simply jailbreaking, is the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running the iOS operating system through the use of custom security exploits. Jailbreaking allows users to gain elevated access to the operating system. Consequently it also allows users to download additional applications, extensions and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store.
