Tutorial: Untethered jailbreak for any iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on iOS 5.1.1 using redsn0w (Windows, Mac)

A few hours ago, those from Dev Team have released a new version of redsn0w that allows us to untethered jailbreak any iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on iOS 5.1.1 using the exploit already available through Absinthe 2.0. The new version of the program does not bring new things for those who have already jailbroken, this is just a simple alternative for Absinthe 2.0. If you have already jailbroken, you have no reason to restart the process just for the idea of using redsn0w.

The tutorial starts from the premise that you have iOS 5.1.1 installed in your own iDevice. The tutorial works with any iDevices now sold by Apple.

Step 1

Download the latest version of redsn0w available here. redsn0w 0.9.12 beta 1 is the latest version available at the time of writing.

Step 2

Connect the iDevice to the computer and open redsn0w.

Step 3

Press the Jailbreak button and redsn0w will start implementing the exploit.

Step 4

The terminal will start a restore process and then go through several states.

Step 5

After redsn0w displays the above message, the terminal will reset and after it finishes the procedure will restart and Cydia should be installed. The process could take a few minutes, so you have to be patient with it.

This is the whole process, after finishing it you have an iDevice that is untethered jailbroken.
