Apple will pay Australian authorities 2.25 million dollars because of the way it promoted the 4G function of the iPad 3 tablet in Australia

In April I told you that the Australian authorities investigates how the Apple company promotes its iPad 3 tablet in that country, because the American company emphasized compatibility with 4G networks, networks that do not exist in Australia. Apple was sued by the authorities, it agreed to change the way the tablet was promoted and to refund the money of the customers who bought the tablet thinking they would be able to use it on 4G networks, but that was not enough.

APPLE will pay more than $2 million as a penalty after agreeing that it misled the public in Australia by selling its new iPad as 4G-compatible. The Federal Court this morning heard the computer giant had agreed to settle a case brought by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission that alleged the new iPad could not access local 4G networks, despite being sold as the new iPad "with WiFi + 4G".

Australian Consumer Protection Office convinced Apple to pay the amount of 2.25 million dollars, most likely Australians, to get rid of the lawsuit, but this also implies keeping the way in which the device is promoted. Other countries have taken similar measures against Apple, Australia is the only one that manages to extract some money from the company and I hope that others will do the same. If our OPC would do things with as much conscientiousness, I think many people would be extremely happy.
