Here are which iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches are compatible with iOS 6, but also which functions will be able to run, iPhone 4 will not make FaceTime calls via 3G

  During the last evening the company Apple has published on its own website the image above in which it tells users that iDevices can run the new iOS 6. I have already told you exactly the same thing in several articles, some of you already knew what to expect, but unfortunately for many the surprises will be unpleasant because many functions of iOS 6 will not run on the old iDevices. You will say that Apple wants to sell a lot and that's why it doesn't offer them, but the reality is that at the moment even the iPhone 4S struggles with certain functions of the Maps application, for example, so in some cases a lot of processing power is really needed .

  Having said that, below I will bring to your attention the important functions of iOS 6 and the iDevices with which they are compatible, the list being also available on the Apple website.

  • The FlyOver function will only be available on iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or iPad 3;
  • Siri will only be available on the iPhone 4S and the iPad 3 tablet;
  • Share Photo Streams will be compatible with iPhone 4/4S, iPad 2/3 and Macs running OS X Mountain Lion;
  • FaceTime via 3G will only work on iPhone 4S and iPad 3;
  • The VIP and Flagged functions in the mail application will only be available on iPhone 4/4S and iPad 2/3.
  • Offline Reading List will only work on iPhone 4/4S and iPad 2/3 tablets.
  • Hearing aids made for iPhone will only work with iPhone 4S.
  • The turn-by-turn navigation function will only be available on iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3.

  I think the biggest surprise is the impossibility of making FaceTime calls on the iPhone 4/iPad 2, something that I for one do not understand considering that the devices can connect to networks at 7.2 Mbps and offer uploads of 5.76 Mbps, so they have the necessary qualities to function. From my point of view, Apple made a big mistake here, but in the rest of the cases, the non-inclusion of compatibility with certain iDevices is explained in one way or another.

  1. It's not long and those with iPhone 3 and 4 will switch to the new iPhone in the fall/winter...probably that's what they relied on when they decided to limit certain functions.... 😉

  2. anyway, the functions will be activated via jailbreak I think... the one with facetime on 3G is already available anyway 🙂

  3. Come on... 4s is struggling? That's good... this hasn't even been officially launched... You mean it's struggling on the 5th? How the hell….maybe you mean 4..another fish food…4s won't struggle on 6 either it has enough processing power..it will struggle 4

  4. yeah, have you tested 4? Have you opened the Maps application? did you turn on 3D mode? you made several zoom ins/outs, tried to change the pin or change the view module or exit the application. I tried and there were freezes in the application. Of course, everything can be related to the beta stage of the application, but even so, I don't imagine that the 4S will work great in the final version. The 3D module needs enough processing power and RAM.

  5. And stay banned here when quad core phones appeared, "I don't see the reason" ... you want reasons, why should apple give you a quad core that will support many generations of iOS when it can give you a single, maximum dual core that to have to change it.

  6. @zaone ... earlier you said that you don't see why quad core processors would be needed in smartphones .. it seems that with ios 6 we will all find out that dual ore is not enough 😀

  7. I think the RAM is not enough. And excuse me, on the iPhone it's dual-core at 800 MHz, if it had over 1 GHz and 1 GB of RAM, I don't think it would have struggled.

  8. I tested iOS 6 on iPhone 4 / respectively iPhone 4S... in fact, on i4 the beta application works badly, on 4S it works a bit better, otherwise, iOS 6 is ok but there are some things that I don't like AT ALL!

  9. Natively, no quad core processors or 1 Gb of RAM are required for, for example, making Facetime calls over 3G. These, as well as lags in various applications, are limitations and software brakes imposed by Apple artificially and intentionally, to force users to purchase new phones. In this way, iPhone 4 users will feel the need to change their phone to iPhone 5. Apple's respect for users is usually less than that for money, which from one point of view is understandable: this is the world in that we live

  10. But what respect does Google have when it gives quads with reduced software? Or the manufacturers of Android terminals that leave 1/2 year old terminals without updating to the newest version of Android OS? It's all a joke there, Apple is still far from that stage, at least it offers the latest version of iOS on the iPhone 3GS which is 3 YEARS OLD!!! It's normal not to give everything on it, it's old, on Android it was thrown in the trash because they had Android 2.0 on it.

  11. What does Apple offer me on the 3GS? The latest software version but which doesn't include any options and can't support any of these functions, ooooo how cool…… It gives me the latest software version but without functions to put a lid on the 3GS just like on 3G with iOS 4.2.1…..
    For example, the samsung galaxy s is from the same generation as the 3GS, maybe it doesn't have ICS on it, but it moves impeccably better than the 3GS and it's still for sale, through root you can put ICS on it, thanks, and it works great with all the functions included, does something like this work on the 3GS?
    Not to mention, when have you ever seen basic functions on Android specifically disabled to force you to stop using the phone, see the example of the iPhone 4 and iPad 2....I'm really pissed off by these things....

  12. @Zaone: I don't understand what you keep giving so much in Android. I think you have a problem with that. I didn't mention the word "Android" even once in my message and I don't see the connection with what I wrote there. If Apple is better, or so it should be, as we like to believe, there should be no need to draw a parallel with Google and its shortcomings, to justify Apple's shortcomings.

  13. You didn't make it clear now, but in many other comments you made direct reference to Android OS.
    @Yoyo: You have nothing to stop because there are no functions. The 3GS is a 3-year-old terminal, you have good functions on it from the latest version of iOS. On the Galaxy S, you have an old software with old functions, you have nothing from the latest version of ICS. Yes, you can hack it, but here it's about what you have by default.

  14. Well, by hacking by non-hacking, the important thing is that there it is possible, while with us on iOS it doesn't work even by hacking hackers, it's a big difference...

  15. Maybe the 3D function of the map application will crack on the iPhone 4, but at least FaceTime via 3G should have given us. They became evil apple jegosi. I changed my mind since they gave Siri to the 4s and didn't give it to the 4 either

  16. Yes, they give ios 6 on the old terminals only with the name, to write there that you have ios 6, to believe nonsense like how great Apple is, not to forget the older models.
