LG gives up the production of tablets, produces the Retina Display of the new MacBook Pro

LG, the famous electronics manufacturer, decided recently to give up manufacturing tablets, but without giving any reason for making this decision. Over time, LG has launched several tablets that have had moderate success on the market, and this is probably the reason why the company has decided to turn its attention to smartphones in the immediate future. LG ranks 4th in the list of the largest mobile phone manufacturers and it seems that this business is much more important at the moment, so Apple has one less competitor on the tablet market.

"We've decided to put all new tablet development on the back burner for the time being in order to focus on smartphones," Ken Hong, a spokesman for Seoul-based LG, said in an e-mailed response to queries.

Although they give up tablets, the people from LG already have signed contracts with Apple for the production of Retina Displays for the iPad tablet, but also for the MacBook Pro, which has just been launched. Unwrapping the new Mac, those from iFixIt found out that inside it hides a display manufactured by LG Phillips, so an LG division is still doing quite well.

Markings on the inverter board read LP154WT1 (SJ) (A1) GD. This appears to be an LCD made by LG Philips!
