Apple uses old 3D images for the Maps application in iOS 6

The Maps application a iOS 6 contains maps of several companies that map large areas of the globe, those from Apple corroborating the data and presenting them in their own application. As in the case of Google Maps, the Maps application in iOS 6 has a Satellite module that allows us to see photos of cities, photos that are quite old in the case of those from Apple. In the image above we have a comparison between the images provided by Nokia Ovi Maps and the Maps application from iOS 6, and the similarities are as obvious as possible, but the images are at least a year and a half old because we see the iPad 1 tablet advertised there.

I noticed the exact same thing the other day looking at the images of the National Library in Bucharest which, in the Maps application, appears as still under construction, although it has been open to the public for several months. It is normal for the images to be old, at least in the case of the Satellite view, so you should not rely on them. The FlyOver module instead contains recent images of all the cities, Apple using airplanes and helicopters to build those 3D modules, so at least in their case you can trust everything that is presented there.
