Madfinger Games, the producer of famous titles Dead Trigger si Shadowgun, announced on the official Facebook page the fact that the Dead Trigger game is going to be offered for free on the Android platform due to the fact that a very large number of users have chosen to pirate the title. The game was available for only $1 in Google Play, but it seems that Android owners don't have huge amounts of money available to buy apps, so they prefer to steal the work of other companies who are now forced to offer the titles for free.
Regarding price drop. HERE is our statement. The main reason: the piracy rate on Android devices, which was unbelievably high. At first we intend to make this game available for as many people as possible – that's why it was for as little as buck. – It was much less than 8$ for SHADOWGUN but on the other hand we didn't dare to provide it for free, since we hadn't got XP with free-to-play format so far. – However, even for one buck, the piracy rate is soooo giant, that we finally decided to provide DEAD TRIGGER for free. Anyway – DEAD TRIGGER is not FREEMIUM, it always was and still remains FREE-TO-PLAY, that means, all players are able to play it without IAP! We stand up for this statement, because all members of our team are playing (and enjoying) DEAD TRIGGER without IAP.
Those from Madfinger say that the piracy rate was incredibly high, but they do not provide concrete data on the number of children who were really hacked, but the figure is probably in the order of hundreds of thousands. Piracy is a problem on any platform, but this is one of the few public statements from a developer who claims to offer a free game because of the large number of pirated applications. Inserting a personal note here, I believe that a user who does not have $1 to buy an application should give up the smartphone.
