A MagSafe connector seriously scratches the screen of a MacBook Pro Retina, Apple still does not know how to fix it

In MacBook Pro 2012 Apple implemented a new connector model MagSafe which theoretically should be better, but which in reality turns out to be much, much worse. An owner of such a Mac managed to crack his laptop screen with the new MagSafe connector, and you can see the result in the image above. Practically, that connector detached from the port without the user seeing it, it closed the cover of the Mac, and the connector caught between the screen and the keyboard scratched the screen as you can see in the image above.

I ordered a Retina display MacBook the moment Apple announced them, and received it shortly thereafter. I had it for about two days, when the following happened. The MacBook was sitting on my desk. I moved it a few inches to the left. This caused the power cable to bump against a book sitting on my desk. Which, in turn, caused the MagSafe connector to fall out of its socket. The cable, coming straight out of the connector, then pushed it on top of my MacBook: Not having noticed what had happened, I closed the screen. Apparently, the glass on Apple's new screens is really thin, because it immediately broke.

The problem is that Apple knows these connectors aren't strong enough to stick to Macs, users complain on its forums, but the company doesn't know how to fix the problem. the user with the cracked screen went to an Apple store in June, the employees there didn't change his Mac and we arrived in August when the screen looks the same because Apple doesn't yet have a method to change Retina screens of the Pros. For a laptop over $2000, the MacBook Pro Retina has fairly trivial, but extremely annoying problems.

Interestingly, the people at the Apple store said they could not yet repair or replace Retina screens. This was on June 30. The broken MacBook is still sitting on my desk, waiting for Apple to figure out how to repair it.

  1. After the first failed attempt, I sued them and bought 50 MacBook Pros from Apple. Once they know about this problem, Apple shouldn't bother me and change their Mac

  2. now seriously... I'm not saying that this "problem" isn't true, it can happen to any laptop... but it could be a pen, pencil, hair clip, ring, the examples are many... BUT apple must offer a way to changing that display!

  3. What problem? that it is broken and puts a plug between the top case and the display?
After all, it's called MagSafe because if you stop it, it disconnects without dropping the laptop.

  4. Yes, after he did the stupid thing he did and says on the internet. That's how stupid a man is...

That Apple cannot repair the retina screens is another problem, and a rather serious one. But it's not Apple's fault that the man is stupid, what can you do...

  5. @doom_laur I have the same opinion, I don't see where Apple is to blame because Tantalau didn't see when he closed the laptop that there was something under the screen. By the way, that's not a scratch, it's a crack in the LCD...

  6. As if the Macbook Pros were the easiest to upgrade... if even Apple doesn't know how to repair them, the absence of Steve Jobs can be clearly seen.

  7. Alin Cristian is right, the MagSafe must come off easily if you hook it, that's exactly the trick. That's a bastard with a $2000 laptop, not surprising.

  8. OK, you say that the magsafe comes off too easily. I don't disagree because I don't have Pro with retina (yet :))
But let's take the other side: if a ram gets stuck on the cable and the magsafe doesn't come off easily and the tool comes in handy, then not everyone at Apple would shout that the laptop broke because the magsafe didn't come off. the
I know that Apple is squeamish about the warranty, but you can't blame them for defending their interests.
Rather than yelling at Apple, it's better to make a Casco with the tools :).

  9. even if there is no way to change the screen, that's really the pinnacle, as if you were taking it
Bugatti Veyron and if someone gets inside you, you can throw it away because it can't be repaired, then write it big on the disposable retina display

  10. I'm sorry I'm repeating myself, but for those who didn't understand, the problem is not that the MagSafe came off, the problem is that that poor boy is sitting with a broken laptop because Apple doesn't know how to fix it and won't give him a new one, it's just him it's fallen

  11. the display and the glass can be changed, but man no... what I want to say is that the guy has nothing to do... he gets bored and puts his stupidity on the internet instead, I would be ashamed and besides he has the guts to ask for apple to fix it... I wonder why he didn't put his head down.. he really has the attitude of.... I give him a piece of advice to get the hell out of a flock of sheep and leave the macbook for people who know what apple means
