Nuance is working on a system that will allow us to use Siri even when the iDevices have the screen closed

Nuance, the makers of the famous system for recognizing words spoken by users, ready a system that would allow Siri-like systems to respond to commands even when in idle mode. This idle mode basically represents the state in which the terminal has the screen closed and stays wherever you left it, and the system would keep the microphone open listening to a command to activate Siri, for example. Nuance is currently working with chip manufacturers to implement this system in mobile terminals and in 1/2 years we could have them available in terminals.

Speech recognition software company Nuance is working with chip makers on how to build a chipset for a mobile device that would let users get assistance from a smartphone without touching it—even when it's in power-saving "sleep" mode—by simply speaking to it . Vlad Sejnoha, Nuance Communications' chief technology officer, says the company is working with "a number of" chip companies who are "thinking very actively" about how to make this sort of persistent listening work in a low-power way.

Of course, there is at least one tweak in Cydia that already offers this functionality for users, but it seriously affects the autonomy of the terminal's battery, so the Nuance solution would be much more appropriate. Although Nuance's technology is extremely interesting, it is hard to say whether Apple will be interested in implementing it in its own terminals and in the event that other manufacturers will use it, Apple will decide to do its own implementation.
